It was in Shanghai that I was first discovered. Stowed away in carry-on luggage, unbeknownst to my female travel companion, I rode along more or less comfortably until I was eventually found.
I didn’t start as a world traveler. My beginnings were somewhat humbler – brought home as a pet of the family pet. Some called me a chipmunk, but from early days, I identified as a squirrel, and took the moniker of Travel Squirrel. But as I got older, my wanderlust grew. I needed to see what my human companions were seeing and talking about. Experience the wonders of the world, local dining, wine, and meet the locals in various destinations.
I learned how to tag along in a wallet, a purse, or a bag. I, of course, prefer First Class, but I am willing to work within my budget if that means I get to see more and do more. My passport was finally acquired, giving me better legal status (my detention after discovery in India scared me straight).
And now – I would like to share my stories. Some of the past, some in real time, all with the appreciation and gratitude that a humble chipmunk/squirrel can live such a life.
